Lifestyle - original thoughts

We would hope to have a substantial house and small-holding (including walled garden) where we will grow fruit and vegetables and keep chickens and possibly other livestock.  In time we would like to have heavy horses and possibly run a service and/or display team driving carriages. There would be a carpentry workshop making and repairing items for the community and to sell.  We would anticipate teams for cooking, gardening and food production, housework, work with animals, maintenance, admin, creativity (e.g. woodwork) and selling surplus farm produce and craft.  Each team would need a leader – perhaps called a “supporter”, with all being members of the community.  People would be encouraged to spend time in as many teams as appropriate – some might specialise in their favourite one, others might like to rotate around various teams.

Daily worship and prayer will be important in the life of the Community, and at least some of these times would be open to others to join us. Worship and work, relaxation and recreation would be the keys to our life together, with prayer underpinning everything and perhaps being a special ministry.  We anticipate lots of parties, barn dances, music, art, sport and whatever else is appropriate for the people making up the community.

We also plan to offer training day services for other adults with learning disabilities along the lines of the Training Lunch Club, but these could be in a range of areas from gardening to various craftworks.  We may be in a position to offer a café/tearoom facility.
